technology learning magazine

What are the best ways to learn more about programming and technology?
I want to be ready for my work begins in six months. I am looking for advice on what qualifications are required to receive or just general media may start to expand my knowledge to succeed. My work as a consultant. My specialty is computer science and engineering and most of my work will focus on programming and consulting. I know the obvious things as magazines and books read, but is there any good magazines out there that I subscribe? O sites I check?
If this will be the development of software, from a point of view, I would say that the magazine Subscribe to Dr. Dobbs and the journal of the language, developing it in. Secondly, to improve their language skills get a book on algorithms and application implementation of these programs and their traces. Algorithm is allowed if the book matches the language you use, and may even learn a lot from that. Find a forum on the language you use and start reading the messages back. There will be things there that will not be in a book or magazine. Find assistance programming and implementation (no need to compete.)
