What are the prospects for early childhood education?

I study child development. I 1.5 years then transfer to a teaching program to teach more in a primary school. Is it worth it. My passion is there, but due to the economy, Fear my finances. I live in San Diego, CA. I was thinking about changing majors in technology, Hi-tech and worked in years. The problem is I'm not sure if I'll miss Tech study or computer systems. HELP-I can do the job, but the measurement process is too boring.
