Job as a Recording Engineer?

How do I become emplyed as a recording engineer? I’m 28 and I have an ‘A level’ music technology qualification (colledge qualification in the UK). I’d love to get into the industry but does anyone have any advice/job offers etc?

I was at the same age as you when i became a recording engineer, i had to create my own position, ther are so many recording studios these days due to the Digital advances, people have bedroom production and there are many demo studios and pro studios, you need to find a local studio that is defunct and deck it out with all your own gear, and gat a portfolio to show to bigger studios, unfortunatley it has become so competitive that most owner operate their own studios and dont let anyone in, you could volunteer to tech asst. but you wont get paid. low budget studios dont chargfe enought to pay others, you could get a job as a cleaner or runner with a lager studo (thats how Sir Richard Branson got in) my advice is become a live engineer theres heaps more work and you get paid! Or start your own studio, the one we started paid its own way rehearsals paid the rent here a link http://www.aetap.com.au you will get an idea from this, and out of all this dont expect o make any money, iread a mag and one of the most reputable enjineers in Australia took 15 years to make decent money, also expect to work about 16 hour per day when producing, and youll only ecer get paid for half the amount of time you put in (i thought it was just me but even the big guys say the same) beware of bands that sound shit (htey always think theyre good and when they sound bad on tape they will blame you) make sure you can tune a drum kit and port the kik drum, youll also need to iunderstan the fundamentals of singing PC repair and maintenence, as well as being the most talented guy you know!!
