cool technology projects

What technology to use for my final project for students?
ASP.NET vs. PHP 5? The idea is to establish a front-driven Web a database and come back later and I'm not an exceptional programmer, I need to sit for hours on the computer with Infront a good book and a number of screens "Examples" / "Code" excerpts of the action. I may be essential, as a loop through the commands, form validation / check and feed and use the information in a database. I want to know if your "sensitive" to use CSS to "customize" the system implmentation final in terms of appearance. Or should I go for ASP cos its got some data-bound controls so cool? What do you recommend I go? I have a little more 5 months to get some of the manga that is worthy of a student project.
ASP is likely to be much easier … especially if access has been used before.
